Hope Cove
Hope Cove
Like so many of the picturesque villages along this coastline, Hope Cove was once a thriving fishing village. However, its fine sandy beaches and calm waters now attract tourists to this pretty village, and it is a perfect holiday destination, especially for families.
Gone may be the days when smugglers prospered in Hope Coves shelter, and when rows of fishing boats lined the beaches, yet much of the village's charming heritage still remains. The tiny village squares of Inner and Outer Hope, with their cob stone cottages, thatched roofs and low doorways still stand, and it is easy to imagine days gone by. Also, whilst commercial fishing from Hope Cove is little more than a distant memory, though the village still enjoys a reputation for excellent crab and lobster.
Sheltered by Bolt Tail, the Cove's sandy beaches are excellent for young children, thanks to their fine sand and their small waves. There are good facilities, including restaurant, pub, shop and several hotels, as well as plentiful parking.
Away from the beach, one can enjoy brisk walks along the coastpath around Bolt Tail to Bolberry Down and Soar Mill, or round to Thurlestone. Also, don't forget to take some time to explore the hidden paths of the village, and sample the wonderful views from the coast path which links Inner and Outer Hope.
